Dozer or excavator for stump removal?

Based on Google’s search results, both dozers and excavators are efficient for stump removal, but the choice between them depends on the size and number of stumps, as well as the terrain and available budget. Generally, excavators are more precise and better suited for larger stumps, while dozers can quickly clear larger areas with many smaller stumps.

Well I just finished clearing about 200 acres of huge oak stumps. I hauled my excavator off the site and brought in the big dozers. These loggers these days cut those stumps so close to the ground that there's no way you can see all the stumps. With it being fall/winter here, the leaves covered all but the biggest of stumps. I was clearing the ground for center pivot irrigators, so I had to make sure I had all the stumps removed. Then I popped all the stumps out and raked them off the field into piles.

Stump removal advice

I have about 30 - 40 tree stumps averaging about 8-18 inches in diameter, about 70% cedar (juniper) and 30% live oak (Central Texas). I've read all the posts about burning stumps, using salt, etc., and for various reasons, it seems my only options are renting a stump grinder or bulldozer to push them over, clean up with a chainsaw on the roots as necessary, and pulling with my tractor (unfortunately a small 25hp Kabota).

Analyzing the Options

Note: I don't need to get rid of the stumps; I just need to get them out of the ground or below grade so I can improve pasture and plow. The question remains, which would be better to use, a stump grinder or a bulldozer?

Choosing Between Stump Grinder and Bulldozer

If opting for a bulldozer, what size would be needed to push over stumps like this or get them uprooted enough that I could get at the roots with a chainsaw? I can leave the stump 4 or 5 feet tall when I cut the trees so I can get leverage with the dozer pushing at the top if that will help.

Thanks for any advice.
