Your Position: Home - Machinery - How do you freshen stale hot dog buns in microwave?
Staleness happens when the water in the buns evaporate. The simplest way to add moisture is to dampen the bun slightly, then heat it to absorb the moisture.

Try this...dampen your fingers, then run them over the buns. Microwave them for 5 seconds and test if they are soft. Alternately, put them in the oven on low heat for 5 minutes. In both cases, cover the buns so they do not lose the moisture you just added.

It's just DH and me, so we can never get through a pack of hamburger buns or hot dog rolls before they get moldy or stale. My Mom gave me a great idea. When we bring a pack of buns home from the store, we put each individual bun in a sandwich bag and then put we put all the bagged buns back into the original bag the buns came in, right into the freezer. That way the buns are double bagged to help them freeze longer and I can just pull out only what I need. And then I just recycle the sandwich bags and reuse them over and over.
