Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether, white or off-white powder or granule, odorless and flavorless. 1.Appearance
From the appearance,it can be divided into two points to determine whether the cellulose ether is good or bad.The first point is the whiteness, although whiteness cannot determine whether it has influence on the use of the product.Mostly good products have good whiteness,and the color is uniform.
The second is the transmittance, observing the transmittance of #HPMC after put HPMC into the water to form a transparent colloid.The higher transparency, the better quality. It means less insoluble substances.
2.Odor
Pure HPMC will not smell ammonia, starch and alcohol, however adulterated HPMC can smell various smells, also can feel more heavy even if it is no smell.

3.Fineness
The fineness of HPMC generally has 80 mesh and 100 mesh, there is 120 less mesh. The finer the better, because the finer the fineness, the better water retention.
4.Specific Gravity
The heavier the specific gravity, the heavier the better. The great specific gravity is generally due to the high content of hydroxypropyl inside, and the higher the content of hydroxypropyl is, the better the water-holding performance will be.
