Coating process (scraper + wire rod)

The coating machine has two coating processes, wire rod and scraper. Scraper is a traditional coating process. Its advantages are: it can obtain higher smoothness and glossiness; its disadvantages are: it has higher requirements for the original film and the speed of glue coating is relatively slow. As a coating process that has just emerged in recent years, wire rod has the advantages of: low requirements for the original film, fast glue coating speed, and can adapt to high solid content coating; its disadvantages are: the adjustable range of coating amount is small, the metering rod is easy to break, and the glue quality requirements are high. Each process has its own shining points, and the two processes can only coexist, and neither of them can be eliminated.

Coating speed (process differences)

The production process of the coating machine is divided into wire rod process and scraper process. Generally speaking, the production speed of wire rod machine is faster than that of scraper machine. According to statistics, the current production speed of wire rod machines is 250-260 m/min, 280-290 m/min, and some can reach more than 300 m/min; while the production speed of scraper machines is 220-230 m/min, 180-190 m/min, 150 m/min, and even some old lines are around 100 m/min. Therefore, the production capacity of each coating machine is still quite different.

Specific steps of tape production

1. Add raw materials: The first thing to do in the tape production process is to add tape raw materials, such as acrylic acid.

2. Emulsification tank: Then add acrylic acid, a raw material for tape, to the emulsification tank for emulsification.

3. Reactor: After acrylic acid is added to the emulsification tank for emulsification, it is placed in the reaction pot for heating.

4. Glue: After the above tape production process steps, the finished glue is produced.

5. Coating machine: Put the newly made glue on the film for gluing.

6. Semi-finished products: The semi-finished products of tapes produced through these tape production processes - mother rolls.

7. Tube cutting machine: The newly produced mother roll of tape is cut by a tube cutting machine.

8. Slitting machine: After the mother roll of tape is successfully cut, a slitting machine is used to slit the tape production process.

9. Carton: After the mother roll of tape is cut and slit, it becomes the tape people see on the market, and now it can be packaged in cartons.

10. Tape: The packaged tape is placed in the warehouse. This is the last tape production process, and it can be called a finished tape at this time.

Daily maintenance of coating machine

1. Check the screws of each part of the packaging machine regularly to avoid looseness.

2. Pay attention to the waterproof, moisture-proof, anti-corrosion and rat-proof of the electrical parts of the coating machine. The inside of the electric control box and the wiring terminals should be kept clean to prevent electrical failure.

3. When the coating machine is stopped, the two heat-sealing rollers should be in the open position to prevent scalding of the packaging materials.

The cleaning and maintenance of the coating machine are as follows:

Cleaning of the coating knife head: Wipe with dry gauze after the equipment is heated. Roller cleaning: Wipe the stainless steel roller with clean dry gauze dipped in 75% alcohol. If glue is found on the surface, wipe it with dry gauze dipped in solvent/ethyl acetate solvent; the glue on the surface of the rubber roller must not be treated with organic solvents to avoid damaging the rubber roller. It should be removed with strong adhesive curing glue. Equipment outer surface; cleaning method: Wipe with clean dry gauze dipped in 75% alcohol. Batch cleaning: Cleaning of the hot melt adhesive coating machine glue box and hose (applicable to changing the glue model and coating method): After draining the original glue, add 2~3Kg of new glue, heat until completely melted and drain all, then add new glue, and after completely melting, drain at least 1Kg to start formal production.

Cleaning of the coating knife head (applicable to changing the glue model and coating method): After the equipment is heated, wipe it with dry gauze. Coating the roller at the composite position; wipe the surface dust with clean dry gauze; if glue is found on the surface, do not use organic solvents to treat it to avoid damaging the rubber roller, and use strong adhesive curing glue to remove it.

Cleaning of the corona device: After confirming that the power is turned off, wipe it with a clean dry gauze dipped in 75% alcohol. Hot melt adhesive coating machine non-fixed periodic cleaning: When the coating method and glue type and grade change, the coating head of the hot melt adhesive coating machine must be cleaned. When cleaning, the coating head must be removed before the glue solidifies, and the coating head must be wiped clean with dry gauze dipped in solvent. During the production process, the overflowing glue must be wiped off with a clean gauze when the equipment is shut down and restarted. Half-month cleaning Hot melt adhesive coating machine glue box filter cleaning. Hot melt adhesive coating machine coating head filter cleaning. If the production is stopped for more than one month, all coating equipment must be cleaned according to the above-mentioned daily, before and after batch change, half a month and non-fixed periodic cleaning content and requirements before it can be put into use; for the hot melt adhesive coating machine glue box, after emptying the original glue, about 30Kg of white mineral oil must be added to dissolve the residual glue. After emptying, about 30Kg of white mineral oil must be added to dissolve again, and it must be completely emptied and set aside.

The coating machine must be operated by a fixed person who is proficient in the startup and bag-making procedures, simple instrument debugging, parameter change, etc.; working procedures, operating modes, working status, common fault troubleshooting and handling; unqualified personnel are strictly prohibited from operating the coating machine computer instrument. Daily maintenance must ensure that the computer instrument box inside and outside is clean and dry; this will extend the service life of the coating machine and avoid unnecessary failures during work.

Top 5 Reasons Why Companies Still Use Tape Backup

Is this the year your organization finally moves away from tape backup to more modern flexible solutions? If your company is heavily invested in tape backup, it&#;s understandable if you&#;re having trouble taking the plunge and moving on from tape. Or maybe you&#;re having trouble convincing senior management because, well, &#;If it ain&#;t broke, don&#;t fix it.&#;

You&#;re not alone.

Companies resist tape migration for reasons that don't exist anymore

So why are some companies still clinging to tape? Here are the top five tape storage &#;claims&#; and the reasons why you should ignore them and actually improve your business outcomes.

1. Tape is cheaper

It&#;s true that tape as medium has lower costs per GB than disk, but as a &#;previous generation&#; technology it has hidden costs. Tape still requires secure physical storage and a capital outlay for tape drives and robotic hardware. In addition, you&#;re probably incurring significant ongoing operating expenses and staff overhead for carrying out tape operations and keeping systems maintained. Don&#;t leave out those infrastructure and resource costs when comparing solutions.

2. Tape is better for long-term storage

If it&#;s properly taken care of, tape is really good at holding onto data for long periods of time. But as a physical medium, tape is a more volatile medium that can degrade over time, which means it&#;s actually less than ideal for long term retention. And missing retention and compliance requirements could cost your business more that just the data in fines or lawsuits.

3. Tape is easier to use and manage

That may be true for administrators that are well-versed in working with tape, but people with that skill set are becoming scarcer by the day. It&#;s more and more expensive to retain administrators who know what they&#;re doing, and the lack of knowledge is creating silos in the infrastructure and less visibility into the backup landscape. Plus, using tape often requires manual operations like imports, exports, and even cleaning &#; and if these tasks aren&#;t performed regularly, operations can be impacted.

4. Tape is more secure

Traditionally, that&#;s been true, but modern disk and cloud backup technologies have come a long way on the security front. Cobalt Iron&#;s Compass enterprise SaaS backup platform, for instance, is able to create immutable backups that can never be directly accessed by administrators. Resulting backups are far more secure than tapes, which can be physically damaged or lost.

5. Tape is more efficient, with more flexible capacity

Again, this may have been true in the past before deduplication revolutionized the disk backup landscape. In fact, deduplication is one of the primary reasons that disk has become more competitive, cost-wise, with tape. Deduplication also enables another great feature of disk backup: replication. While tape requires a human or a shipping service to get it to another location, deduplicated disk backups can be easily replicated anywhere in the world. Also, backing up data to tape and then later restoring it when needed takes significantly longer than disk or cloud restores.

When you are ready to leave tape, migrating doesn't have to be a headache

It can be difficult to migrate away from a tried-and-true backup technology that has served your company well for many years. At the same time, momentum is building for enterprises to leave tape behind, especially as disk and cloud backup technologies continue to mature.

For many companies, it&#;s not a question of &#;if,&#; but &#;when,&#; especially if they have a corporate mandate to modernize and unify the enterprise data protection environment.

At Cobalt Iron, we can help ease the journey to modern backup solutions, even if it needs to be gradual. For many of our customers who still have requirements for tape operations, a virtual tape library (VTL) might be the right solution. Our software-defined Compass VTL solution, for instance, delivers on all the benefits of SaaS-based backup: simplified operational processes, accelerated recovery, and drastically lowered storage costs. At the same time, you can use Compass to manage your existing tape operations.
